My background:
I have been treating individuals, couples and families in both Florida and Maryland for the past 18 years in a variety of settings, including private practice, church, school, and hospitals (inpatient and outpatient populations). I have worked with clients challenged by a wide variety of issues across the lifespan.

One of my deepest beliefs is the importance of keeping up with the newest research to provide clients with therapy that is both effective and efficient. I am particularly passionate about my work with couples, adolescent girls, and those going through divorce or separation.

I love helping couples strengthen their marriage. Therefore, I have pursued further training in both Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Both of these approaches are associated with high rates of success in couples work. To feel safe and connected with another human being is fundamental for our health; it is my privilege to help couples do that.

I also love working with adolescent girls. I find that the teen years are uniquely challenging for girls (and their parents!). Social media, school drama, body issues and anxiety about grades all come together to create a very challenging phase of life. It is rewarding to see therapy helping teenagers to make healthier choices and to feel more centered.

Lastly, sometimes marriages cannot be saved. It is unfortunate but a sad reality. Those encountering divorce struggle with letting go of a dream while navigating a very new reality. Sometimes the divorce is desired, other times unexpected. In both situations it will likely be painful. One of my specialities is guiding individuals through this transition, helping them to balance practical concerns with their need to grieve and move forward.

About Me:
I am a creative listener who hears my clients’ concerns and then helps them to think differently about them. I love working with clients to look for change, to appreciate what is working and to be more connected with others in their lives. No matter what one is struggling with, there is solution or something to deeply appreciate. I am honored by all the clients that have shared their struggles with me and allowed me to help them be healthier or more centered in their lives. I am fluent in Brazilian Portuguese but love working with clients from all backgrounds. I have been married for 20 years and have two children (a teenager and a tween). I have successfully used “Love and Logic” techniques for raising my own children and in my practice.
